Biography
Zhao Kun is a sculptor whose work explores the spirit and movement of animals through bronze and stone. Drawing from both Eastern sculptural traditions and contemporary practice, each piece seeks to distill the essence of its subject — the coiled tension of a predator, the quiet grace of a deer, the soaring freedom of a bird in flight.
Working primarily in bronze using the lost-wax casting method, and occasionally in stone, the sculptures range from intimate table-scale pieces to monumental outdoor installations. The studio practice is rooted in direct observation of animals and a deep respect for the materials that give each work its final character.
Artist Statement
"I sculpt animals not to replicate their form, but to find the moment where stillness holds movement — where bronze breathes."
